A trilateral meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Heidar Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Robert Kocharian of Armenia.
These negotiations had not been planned in advance and began immediately after the end of Caucasian Quartet negotiations.
Mr Aliyev and Mr Kocharian acknowledged that Russia would continue to play an important role in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The sides came to the common view that Russia could help to settle the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh by attending bilateral negotiations and through the Minsk Group.
