The presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed the charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation—an interregional agency—and an agreement on its legal status. The parliaments of signatory countries of the Collective Security Treaty were called upon to finish the ratification of these documents before May 2003.
The entry of those documents into force will enhance the effectiveness of the military-political alliance, and build up contacts between the signatory countries for the sake of their national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for active participation in international efforts against terrorism and other challenges to peace and stability.
