Mr Putin and Mr Chirac exchanged their opinions on the results of Hans Martin Blix’s, head of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), report, which has been under discussion since March 7 at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Presidents noted with satisfaction that Blix’s conclusion on the lack of grounds to stop inspections in Iraq was confirmed by Mohamed ElBaradei, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and supported by the majority of UN Security Council members. Because of this the two leaders called for the peaceful regulation of the Iraqi problem and the effective use of the UN in accordance with Resolution 1441 of the UN Security Council.
