The meeting discussed the process of dividing authority between the different levels of state power.
Mr Filipenko informed the President that the Khanty-Mansiisk Autonomous District’s economy grew by 12 percent over the first half of 2004. In particular, the governor said, oil production in the region was up 8–10 percent on last year’s figures.
Mr Filipenko drew particular attention to the increase in the number of births in the Khanty-Mansiisk Autonomous District. He said that the region had had a natural population increase of 5.6 percent over the first half of 2004, compared to a figure of 7.7 percent for the whole of 2003.
