Mr Putin met with the Governor of Rio de Janeiro state, Mrs Rosangela Rosinha Garotinho Matheus de Oliveira.
Together they had a walk to Corcovado mountain, where atop its peak the famous Statue of Christ the Redeemer stands, and then visited the Maracana local stadium.
