President Vladimir Putin and Jan Peter Balkenende discussed the results of the recent Russia-EU summit held in the Hague, and noted that the summit had helped further progress of constructive dialogue.
The leaders also exchanged their opinions on the situation in Ukraine.
Mr Balkenende, as the Chairman of the Council of Europe, noted that people in Europe fully agreed that regulation of the crisis in Ukraine could only be achieved within the boundaries of the Constitution and existing legislation.
Mr Putin and Mr Balkenende agreed to maintain regular contacts.
