Vladimir Putin gave a high assessment of Russian-American talks and called the meeting with the U.S. President a dialogue of interested partners, which took place in a friendly and trusting atmosphere.
At the summit, specific guidelines were agreed on for developing cooperation between Russia and the U.S. in the years to come. Above all, this concerns combatting the threats and challenges of the present day, the most important of which is the war on terrorism, Mr. Putin noted.
Economic issues were an important topic, especially the prospects for Russia to join the World Trade Organisation.
At the meeting with George W. Bush, considerable attention was devoted to discussing problems of democracy.
Mr Putin thanked President Bush for agreeing to come to Moscow for the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Russian President sees this as a respect for historic memory and a tribute to allied relations.
