The Agreement on development of cooperation on effective use of the Baikonur space complex was signed on 9 January 2004 in Astana.
It will make it possible to continue effective use of the Baikonur space complex in the interests of national space programmes, programmes of international cooperation and commercial space projects, and guarantee stable conditions to attract investments to the space centre, including from foreign clients.
Furthermore, the extension of the rent period of the Baikonur complex until 2050 is the basis of developing cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, and meets Russian national interests.
A priority area of this Agreement is also the creation at the Baikonur space centre of the Baiterek ecologically safe space rocket centre on the basis of the Russian Angara space rocket complex.
