Mr Putin invited the CSKA football players to his residence to personally congratulate them on their victory.
All the team’s players, along with their head trainer, Valery Gazzayev, came to Mr Putin’s Novo-Ogaryovo residence, bringing with them the UEFA Cup, a trophy made of 15 kilograms of pure silver.
Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, Director of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport Vyacheslav Fetisov and President of the Russian Football Union Vitaly Mutko were also present at the meeting.
The CSKA players gave Mr Putin a football signed with their names and shirt numbers and a t-shirt reading “Winner of the UEFA Cup 2005.”
The President thanked the team for their gifts and wished the CSKA Football Club new victories.
