At a meeting of the board of the Federal Security Service Vladimir Putin emphasized that counterterrorism activities must be accomplished in a systematic methodical way and take analytical aspects into account.

It is necessary to compile a maximum amount of information concerning the trends in international terrorism. It is necessary to find effective ways to fight against terrorism, to coordinate cooperation between the Federal Security Service and other law enforcement agencies in an effective way, and to develop international cooperation.

We must use the experience we gain from such cooperation in the field of counterterrorism, and also with regards to combating organized crime and illegal trafficking of weapons and materials that could be used for weapons of mass destruction.

The head of state also set the FSB the task of struggling with displays of excessive nationalism and extremism. The President emphasized that such crimes represent direct threats to Russia's stability.
