Fears that an underdeveloped energy sector could become a real factor holding back the economic growth rate are being confirmed, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting that chiefly discussed the situation in Russia’s electricity sector.
Mr Putin quoted Industry and Energy Ministry information that RAO Unified Energy Systems was currently unable to fulfil requests from economic actors for a total of 50 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Fulfilling this demand would make it possible to raise GDP growth by approximately 5 percent a year, the President said.
Mr Putin noted the need to draw up urgent measures to bring about radical change in the electricity sector.
