Russia will do all it can to prevent such divisions from taking hold, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
Mr Putin thanked Mr Ihsanoglu for his help in giving Russia observer status in the OIC and noted that developing relations with the Muslim countries is one of Russia’s foreign policy priorities. Russia is home to millions of people who practice the Muslim faith and they have the right to feel that they are a part of the Muslim world, Mr Putin said.
Russia seeks to develop active cooperation with all the countries in the Islamic world and with all the Organisation of the Islamic Conference’s member states.
