Speaking at a press conference following the close of the Group of Eight industrialised nations’ annual summit, President Vladimir Putin noted that the participants had succeeded in coordinating responses to the issues Russia set for the summit agenda.
Speaking earlier at a briefing for journalists, Mr Putin stressed that the concept of energy security had previously been interpreted as meaning stable supplies for the main consumers, but Russia has now managed to convince its partners that energy security is a broader concept that should also cover the extraction, transport and sale of energy resources.
On another issue, that of fighting infectious diseases, the President noted the importance of the decision to establish two institutes in Russia – a laboratory for disease strains and a centre to produce medicines for AIDS patients.
