Mr Putin discussed measures to combat extremism with the leaders of Russian political parties. In his opening remarks, the President noted that the fight against extremism in all its forms, including terrorism, ethnic, religious and social intolerance, is one of the state’s top priorities, but that this combat also calls for a concerted effort from political parties, public organisations and all of civil society.
The President urged political parties to undertake active educational work in the regions in order to explain the dangers of extremism for the state, society and each individual citizen. All those who preach racial, ethnic or religious hatred need to know that their views will meet with fitting resistance. Russia’s ethnically and religiously diverse society must know and feel at all times that the country’s political parties have a clear and united position on this issue.
