The Security Council session held in the Kremlin by President Vladimir Putin dealt with the problems of social and economic development of the Russian Far East.
Mr Putin pointed to a serious incongruity between the potential of the Far Eastern Federal District and its current economic performance and welfare, and urged the participants to take an active part in the elaboration of a realistic and comprehensive strategy for the development of the area.
The President said that stable development of the Far East requires close coordination of the efforts by the federal, regional, and municipal authorities in drafting the strategy, removal of limitations on the development of infrastructures, active involvement of private funds in the implementation of major projects, and creation of a favorable investment climate by protecting the economy of the Far East against the pressure of corruption and organized crime.
Vladimir Putin considers important effective participation of the Russian Far East in integration in Asia and the Pacific, and promotion of international contacts and cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries.
