The amendments optimize the powers of on-site state border control regulators.
Under the new law, border control will not be accompanied by immigration control. Customs officials will now be empowered to verify the papers needed for transport, veterinary, sanitary, epidemiological, and other checks as the cargo crosses the border. A new database with all information on cargo, goods, and animals crossing the Russian border will be created.
The new measures are seen as a considerable simplification of on-border paperwork necessary to enter and exit Russia.
