President Vladimir Putin spoke of the importance of public attitudes at a meeting with women professionally or personally involved in child education, healthcare, and supporting the institution of the family in Russia.
The state is implementing a package of social-policy measures aimed at resolving the demographic crisis and supporting motherhood, but fairly modest material benefits such as the maternity capital alone will not suffice to resolve the problem, the President said. The key to a solution lies in public attitudes towards family values, motherhood and having children.
Speaking later at a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of the Priority National Projects and Demographic Policy, Mr Putin noted the need for a systematised and carefully calculated demographic policy concept document. This document is intended not just for the state authorities, but above all for the citizens of Russia. The country’s demographic policy should be a product of public demand, Mr Putin said.
