The President signed the Presidential Executive Order On Approving the Order on Procedures for Nominating and Examining Candidates for the Senior Executive Office (Head of the Highest Executive Body of Power) in the Russian Federation’s Regions.
The order stipulates, in particular, that the governing body of the political party with the majority in the region’s legislative assembly submits its proposed candidates for the governor’s office to the President. At least three candidates must be nominated.
The order sets out the procedures for nominations and defines the requirements candidates must meet. It also defines the procedures for examination and approval of candidates by the President, and the subsequent procedure by which the President confers the powers of regional governor upon the selected candidate.
