In the aim of restructuring Russia’s nuclear energy industry, preserving and developing its scientific and production potential and strengthening Russia’s competitive position on world markets for goods and services related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and in accordance with federal legislation, President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree approving the government proposal to establish an open joint-stock company, Nuclear Energy and Industrial Complex, based in Moscow, with 100 percent of its shares in federal ownership.
The decree states that the priority areas of work of the company and its subsidiaries and dependent companies are the design, placement, construction, operation, guarantee and maintenance servicing, modernisation, repairs and decommissioning of nuclear installations, radiation sources and storage facilities for nuclear materials radioactive substances, scientific research into the use of nuclear energy, the introduction of new technology and developments in the sector, the construction, operation and guarantee servicing of nuclear power plants, including facilities outside the Russian Federation, the production of electrical and thermal energy at nuclear power plants, prospecting and production of minerals containing nuclear materials and radioactive substances, isotope enrichment of uranium and other nuclear materials, the development, production and sale of nuclear fuel assemblies, the export and import of nuclear-energy-related goods and services, and the provision of training for specialists in the area of nuclear energy.
