The two Presidents discussed current issues related to bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic, military-technical, social and cultural spheres, as well as Russian-Chilean cooperation in the international arena.
The Presidents underlined how important it was to use all forms of partnership, including the establishment of inter-governmental commissions. They spoke in favour of a regular political dialogue and called for overcoming the consequences of ideological differences that had hindered the development of Russian-Chilean relations in the past.
Mr Putin and Mr Lagos Escobar placed high hopes on a visit of Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov to Chile scheduled for March 2001.
