The Presidents discussed the situation in the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula, as well as disarmament issues. Mr Clinton welcomed Mr Putin’s proposals to reduce strategic weapons and to continue a dialogue on disarmament. President Clinton instructed the Department of State and experts in his Administration to examine and analyse these proposals.
Mr Putin praised Mr Clinton’s role in the development of bilateral cooperation and expressed hope that this course would be continued after the election of a new US President.
Present at the talks were: Sergei Ivanov, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Prikhodko, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, and Madeleine Albright, US Secretary of State.
