During their morning work session, the G8 leaders discussed assistance for Africa and adopted one of the summit documents – Growth and Responsibility in Africa. African leaders and the heads of international organisations also took part in the session’s work.
The G8 countries announced plans to contribute $60 billion towards fighting infectious diseases in Africa.
The G8 leaders discussed global economic growth issues and related matters with the leaders of five invited countries – Brazil, India, China, Mexico and South Africa.
A document on these issues – Economic Growth and Responsibility – was presented the previous day.
The summit saw the adoption of 12 documents in total: Economic Growth and Responsibility; Growth and Responsibility in Africa; a joint progress report by the G8 leaders’ personal representatives on work within the G8 countries’ partnership with Africa; a statement by the G8 on Sudan/Darfur; a statement on non-proliferation; a report by the Group on Nuclear and Physical Safety; a report on the G8 global partnership; a statement on counter-terrorist work (Security in the Era of Globalisation); a report on G8 support for the United Nations’ counter-terrorist efforts; a statement on trade; and a review of the global partnership.
The summit concluded with a joint working breakfast for the G8 heads of state and government and the leaders of Brazil, India, China, Mexico, South Africa, Algeria, Ghana, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and the heads of international organisations.
