At the Xijiao residence, the leaders of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan adopted a joint statement on the entry of Uzbekistan into the Shanghai Forum as a full member.
The document stressed that Uzbekistan evaluated highly the positive experience gained by the Shanghai Forum since it came into existence.
The full membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Forum arises from the observance of the principles embodied in documents signed in 1996 and 1997 in Shanghai and Moscow. Agreements on confidence-building measures in the military field and on mutual reductions of armed forces in the border area, as well as other agreements reached between heads of state of the member-countries, form the basis of relations between Shanghai Forum members, the statement said.
