The letter said, in part:
“The Middle East situation remains difficult: the confrontation over the Palestinian territories continues, with people’s suffering increasing, the number of victims growing, and huge losses. The situation contradicts the interests of the Palestinian people and other peoples in the Middle East. Today, as never before, both sides have to show their political will and take decisive steps to implement the Mitchell plan, which includes the key aspects of stabilising the situation: to end the violence, rebuild confidence and resume negotiations.
Overcoming the current crisis will open opportunities to achieve the strategic goal – a comprehensive and just settlement in the Middle East according to the UN Security Council’s Resolutions 242 and 338, and the Madrid principles, above all “peace for land.” This will promote the implementation of the Palestinian people’s legal rights, including their right to self-determination and establishing their sovereign state.
“Russia, in cooperation with all interested parties, intends to make every effort to ensure lasting peace, stability and safety in the Middle East.”
