The message reads, in part:
“I firmly believe that there is a substantial, albeit still little used, potential for cooperation between our countries. We have every opportunity to invigorate our bilateral ties in various areas, in particular in trade and economic exchanges, high technologies and in the military-technical sphere.
“We are firmly committed to continuing the political dialogue between Russia and Peru on contemporary global problems in the interests of peace and international security. We expect to continue active cooperation in countering the new challenges of our time, including the fight against international terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking.
“We are ready for closer contacts with Peru in the framework of such regional associations as Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Organisation of American States and in the format of the Russia – Andean Community dialogue.”
The Russian President also congratulated the Peruvian leader on the national holiday of the Republic, Independence Day.
