Tony Blair shared with Vladimir Putin his views of the outcome of his recent visits to South Asian nations, including Afghanistan. Mr Putin congratulated Mr Blair on the completion of his difficult mission, adding that it had been perfectly timed and made an important contribution to the joint efforts of the members of the international counter-terrorist coalition.
As the two leaders discussed the situation in the region, they realized that they supported close approaches to stabilising the situation in Afghanistan and measures to promote a settlement between India and Pakistan. Both emphasized the importance of eliminating all kinds of terrorist activity emanating from Pakistan in order to restore dialogue between Delhi and Islamabad.
Mr Putin and Mr Blair also discussed a series of other issues related to Russian-British cooperation in international affairs.
The call was made on the initiative of the British side.
