Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Naryshkin reported on an Intergovernmental Council meeting held by the heads of government of the Eurasian Economic Community’s member countries, which saw the signature of a package of agreements on establishing the Customs Union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informed the meeting about his upcoming visit to Belarus to attend a collegium meeting of the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries.
Economic Development and Trade Minister Elvira Nabiullina presented adjusted macroeconomic results for 2007 and also reported on the upcoming signature of an agreement between the Kaluga Region government and Peugeot-Citroen on building a car plant to manufacture mid-price cars.
Regional Development Minister Dmitry Kozak informed the meeting that the Government has approved the plans for three major investment projects: a project to develop southern Yakutia; the Industrial Urals – Polar Urals project to develop the eastern side of the Urals range; and the construction of a toll road between St Petersburg and Moscow. Mr Kozak also said that the Government has established clearer criteria and rules for selection and funding of regional investment projects.
