In the communique issued after visit of the President of Russia to China, Dmitry Medvedev and Hu Jintao praised the development of relations between Russia and China.
During the visit a Joint Declaration on major international issues that sets out the two countries' general position on the most pressing problems of international development was signed.
In particular, the declaration states that the creation of a global missile defence system, including the deployment of such a system in some regions of the world, is not conducive to maintaining the current strategic balance and stability, and hampers international efforts for arms control.
Russia and China embrace the peaceful use of outer space and working to resolve the problem of the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction through political and diplomatic methods. They also called on the international community to join efforts for an effective response to common threats and to maintain a sustainable peace.
