The summit’s agenda included energy security in Europe, the Russian initiative to conclude a new treaty on European security, and also work on drafting a new Russia-EU partnership and cooperation agreement.
Strategic cooperation between Russia and the EU makes it possible to respond to even the most serious challenges and resolve even the most complex problems, including the global financial and economic crisis, Dmitry Medvedev said at the news conference following the talks.
The President said he is happy with the pace at which work on a new partnership and cooperation agreement between Russia and the EU is progressing. He noted that this process is useful in itself in bringing the different positions closer together, and said he hopes that work on the agreement will continue smoothly and take into account both sides’ interests.
