During the meeting Mr Medvedev noted that the movement of student construction brigades has a promising future. He confirmed that in the near future the State Duma will consider amendments to current legislation to give the student construction brigades a uniform status, one that is unified and convenient for students and universities.
Before the beginning of the meeting President Medvedev inspected part of the parallel road and railway that is currently under construction and will eventually link the sea coast and the ski resort at Krasnaya Polyana. 160 workers are working on the project, 48 of whom are students. The President also visited a site where a number of tunnels are being built and where a group of 22 students are employed.
After meeting with members of the student construction brigades, Mr Medvedev toured Imeretinskaya valley, where the main facilities of the Sochi 2014 Olympics will be located, by helicopter.
Student construction brigades are voluntary associations of young people that work in construction and other sectors during the summer holidays. This movement emerged in the USSR in 1959 and is now being revived.
