Commission member and head of the Interior Ministry’s Main Information Analysis Centre Pavel Vazhev presented a report on the practical implementation of the Law On Rehabilitating Victims of Political Repression and the Presidential Executive Order On Measures to Rehabilitate Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek, Crimean Tatar and German Peoples and State Support for their Revival and Development.
It was noted that the Interior Ministry’s information centres in the Republic of Crimea and Federal City of Sevastopol have received a large number of applications (over 14,000 as of October 1) from citizens who suffered from political repression due to the administrative expulsion of Crimean residents on an ethnic basis in 1944. In this regard, the information centres have created rehabilitation and archival information departments and necessary organisational measures have been taken. Experienced internal affairs personnel from various Russian regions have been sent to help staff at the new departments.
Another report about the outcome of the Commission’s work will be presented to the President in 2015.
Participants in the meeting familiarised themselves with materials in a mobile thematic book exhibition prepared by staff at the Presidential Executive Office Library on the topic of repression and rehabilitation of the peoples of Crimea.
