The President signed an executive order giving the commissioner a number of powers and rights, in particular, the right to obtain information from the state authorities at various levels and get them to take decisions needed to resolve issues concerning protection of children’s rights, carry out expert evaluations and checks on the performance of the executive authorities and state officials.
In a second executive order, Mr Medvedev appointed Alexei Golovan to the post of the Presidential Commissioner.
The President met with Mr Golovan, congratulated him on his appointment, and discussed the substance of his future work, stressing that this is a job requiring a lot of emotional investment, energy, and an informal approach.
