Russian-Norwegian talks.
Russian-Norwegian talks.

During talks in Oslo between Dmitry Medvedev and Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, the parties reached a preliminary agreement on maritime delimitation and their countries' cooperation in the Barents Sea and Arctic Ocean.

The relevant statement was signed by Russian and Norwegian foreign ministers. A joint statement issued by Dmitry Medvedev and Jens Stoltenberg also emphasizes significant progress in resolving the issue. At the press conference following the talks, President Medvedev stressed that the agreement on maritime delimitation will facilitate the development of joint economic projects, including in the energy sector. The countries' delegations will continue negotiations in order to complete the technical preparations of the necessary documents and reach a final agreement.

The President also noted that Russia looks forward to continued cooperation with Norway in the Arctic — both in the area of security, including environmental security, and in the economic area.

The talks culminated in the signing of several bilateral documents. In addition to the joint statement made by Russia's President and Norway's Prime Minister, and statements on the delimitation of maritime boundaries, a number of inter-departmental agreements in fields such as education, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, hydrometeorology and management training were signed.
