The Agreement was signed with the aim of developing the international legal foundation for Russian-Turkish cooperation to provide mutual legal assistance in criminal cases and extradition.
In accordance with the Agreement, the parties commit, on a reciprocal basis and in observance of the conditions indicated within, to provide legal assistance to one another in investigations, prosecutions and other procedural actions pertaining to criminal cases, and to mutually extradite individuals located on one of the nations’ territories for criminal prosecution or enforcement of a sentence in the requesting nation for extraditable offences. At the same time, extraditable offences include actions that, in accordance with both parties’ legislation, are criminalised and punishable by imprisonment of no less than one year, or a more serious punishment.
The Agreement does not affect issues regulated by the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union and does not contradict the Russian Federation’s other agreements.
