The Federal Law gives the name Tsiolkovsky to a city in Amur Region known as Uglegorsk, where the main employer is the Vostochny Space Launch Centre.
Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857–1935) was a Russian and Soviet scientist, founder of theoretical cosmonautics. He rationalised the use of rockets for space flights and came to the conclusion on the need to use ‘rocket trains’ – prototypes of the current multi-stage space rockets.
