The treaty was prepared as part of the effort to provide a legal framework for Russian-Haitian relations in keeping with the agreements achieved as a result of talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers. The treaty is in full compliance with the established international legal practice and serves Russia’s interests.
The treaty will help develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Haiti.
It envisions wide-ranging cooperation in numerous areas of trade, economic, social, environmental, educational, cultural, humanitarian, scientific sectors and sport, as well as in healthcare and the prevention of emergency situations and emergency relief operations. The signatories undertake to cooperate in the fight against organised crime and international terrorism.
The treaty was signed on behalf of Russia by the Russian Foreign Minister in New York on 29 September, 2015, pursuant to the President of Russia’s directive.
