The meeting started with a discussion of the emergency situation in the republic caused by a flood and contamination of drinking water sources with waste water. Several hundred people have been affected and, according to Ramazan Abdulatipov, some 273 patients who have been poisoned remain in hospitals. The situation is stabilising. The Russian Healthcare Ministry, the Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) and other organisations are providing assistance. A republican emergency group is meeting daily. The republican directorate of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the incident. The Head of the Republic stressed that the officials will take the most serious action against the responsible parties.
In general, according to Mr Abdulatipov, the situation in the republic is quite stable. In terms of industrial development, Daghestan is in the top five regions of the Russian Federation. Agricultural production growth rates remain steady. Optimisation of expenses is receiving special attention.
The Head of the Republic also briefed the President on several promising projects that could have a significant impact on the socioeconomic development of Daghestan and on stability in the region.
