The President will take part in the ceremony opening the seventh session of 2017, devoted to the most famous Artek visitor in the world: Samantha Smith. The American schoolgirl was a Goodwill Ambassador and spent two weeks in Artek in July 1983. Her name became a symbol of international children’s diplomacy.
Vladimir Putin will also inspect the reconstruction of the centre’s infrastructure facilities being conducted since 2014 and the building of the Solnechny Camp.
Artek is located in Crimea, in one of the most picturesque areas on the Black Sea Coast. It was established in 1925. Today this is a centre consisting of 10 children’s camps with ramified infrastructure, its own teaching technology and cultural traditions. In 2016 Artek received 31,200 children from different regions of the Russian Federation and 1,100 children from 45 foreign countries.
Artek is the world’s largest children’s camp. It is located on 218 hectares, including 102 hectares of parks. The centre owns seven kilometres of the coast with children’s beaches.
