Mr Putin’s visit coincides with the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Judo Championships, which is taking place in Budapest. The President of Russia is honorary president of the International Judo Federation.
The championship is taking place on August 28-September 3. The competition programme includes 7 disciplines for men and women in the different weight categories, and team competitions. A total 795 athletes from 134 countries will take part, including Russia’s 30-strong team.
During the visit, Mr Putin will also hold meetings with Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga.
