The Agreement was signed in Astana (Kazakhstan) on November 2, 2018.
The Agreement establishes the legal and organisational framework for multilateral cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, and specifies the areas and forms of cooperation.
The Agreement also contains provisions on coordinating joint activity, on competent government bodies, terms of funding the joint activity, protecting intellectual property rights, exchanging information, protecting property and measures to protect products and technology, customs regulation and export control of goods.
The Agreement also stipulates the tasks and rules of operation for the Inter-State Space Council that is charged with coordinating joint action to fulfil the Agreement.
