The Federal Law stipulates the application of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialised Agencies, which the UN General Assembly adopted on November 21, 1947, to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
The granting of privileges and immunities to international organisations (specialised UN bodies) is aimed at creating optimal conditions for the functioning of the specialised agencies of the UN system in member states and is a universally recognised international practice.
Relations between Russia and the WIPO have entered a new stage, with additional attention given to interaction with the WIPO aimed at creating an efficient system of intellectual property management.
The Russian law on the application of the Convention to the WIPO will assign the privileges and immunities guaranteed under the Convention to the WIPO and its official representatives and will create conditions for the further development of the partnership between Russia and the WIPO.
