The message reads, in part:
“Yury Trutnev has passed away. He was a prominent scientist, talented researcher and organiser whose works laid the foundation for the Russian thermonuclear project, facilitated the strengthening of the national defence capacity and the development of the nuclear energy sector.
The entire life of Academician Yury Trutnev is an example of devoted service to the country and adherence to the high calling of being a teacher and mentor. The cherished memory of Yury Trutnev will always remain in the hearts of his family and, of course, his colleagues and numerous apprentices who will continue to improve the scientific school he created and implement his original creative ideas and plans.”
Yury Trutnev died on August 6 at the age of 93 in Sarov. From 1951 to his dying day, he worked at the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF).
