The current economic situation in the republic, setting up the North Caucasus Federal District and the appointment of Alexander Khloponin as Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Federal District and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia were among the issues discussed.
President Medvedev stressed that the key to solving the problems of the regions in the new federal district is not to exacerbate matters by concentrating exclusively on discussing crime and terrorism in the North Caucasus, but rather to stimulate the social and economic development of the North Caucasian republics.
This will be the challenge for Alexander Khloponin, the President said, and he will be given all the support necessary. Meeting this challenge will change the district’s economic and social profile, help strengthen the entire nation and improve Russian people’s quality of life.
