Accompanied by Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, the First Lady had a chance to see how the students live and study. The visit concluded with a concert by the school’s many creative and artistic clubs.

As a gift, Svetlana Medvedeva gave the boarding school a book entitled The Legend of the Russian Land, encouraging the students to learn about history and to love their country.

The Ministry of Defence Boarding School for Girls of the Moscow Cadet Corps was opened in July 2008. Its students include girls from single-parent and large families and daughters of Russia’s Armed Forces personnel carrying out their service at remote military posts, as well as daughters of fallen servicemen and combatants who have received state decorations for the performance of their military duty.

Currently, the boarding school is home to 314 girls. The students receive both general education and extra-curricular educational programmes with the emphasis in music, art, classic dance and athletics. The school has over a dozen sports clubs.
