The message reads, in part:
“Gleb Panfilov belonged to that constellation of outstanding filmmakers of our time, whose names are the pride of our culture. His talent and boundless dedication to his craft won him the highest recognition.”
Soviet and Russian director and screenwriter, People’s Artist of the RSFSR, Gleb Panfilov died on August 26 at the age of 89.
Mr Panfilov’s professional awards include the Cannes Film Festival prize for artistic contribution to cinema, the Golden Bear of the Berlin International Film Festival, the Silver Lion of the Venice Film Festival, the Golden Leopard prize of the Locarno International Film Festival and Russian prizes including the Nika, Golden Eagle and others.
