The federal law provides for the creation of centres to honour the historical legacy of former Russian presidents. The centres will conduct research into the historical, political, sociological and legal aspects of the heritage of the former presidents of Russia as well as analyzing the prospects for Russia’s future development, cooperation between state authorities, citizens and organisations. The law determines the precise legal status of the centres, their goals, tasks, functions and structure, as well as their formation and sphere of competences. In addition, the law stipulates that a museum collection, archive and library will be established in each centre and addresses other issues connected with the operation of the centres.
In accordance with the federal law the funds required for the operation of the centres will be deducted from that year’s federal budget.
The federal law was adopted by the State Duma on April 25, 2008 and approved by the Federation Council on May 6, 2008.
