Other subjects on the agenda included overcoming the global financial crisis’ impact, and Latin America’s political and economic integration. In particular, the talks looked at expanding Russia’s cooperation with the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), the Rio Group, and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
Cultural and humanitarian ties were also a particular focus of attention given that Argentina is celebrating the 200th anniversary of its statehood this year, and the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with Russia.
The two presidents concluded their talks by adopting a joint declaration on cooperation based on mutual commitment to the principles of international law and the United Nations’ central role in world affairs.
The two leaders also oversaw the signing of a number of bilateral agreements.
