The purpose of the federal law is to regulate accreditation procedures for members of the diplomatic and consular corps, as well as officials of international organisations and their representative offices with a view to validating their diplomatic privileges and immunities as set forth in the Russian Federation’s international treaties or in accordance with generally recognised international norms. The federal law also provides for determining the legal status of the issued accreditation documents.
In addition to this, the federal law vests the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation with the authority to accredit foreign nationals within this category and also define the modalities for accrediting them.
