The process of forming new composition of Civic Chamber begins

Pursuant to Article 8 of Federal Law No 32-FZ of April 4, 2005, On the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, the President selected 40 Russian citizens who have made notable contributions to the state and society and invited them to become members of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

At least half of the nominees are put forward by trade and creative unions, employer organisations and their associations, professional bodies, and other non-profit organisations established to represent and safeguard the interests of various professional and social groups.

In accordance with the law governing the Civic Chamber, the publication of information about the submission of these nominations on the President’s official website marks the official start of the procedure for forming a new composition of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

No later than 30 days from the start of the procedure to form a new Civic Chamber, the civic chambers of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation are required to elect one representative from among their members to serve on the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Under the law, the Civic Chamber is entrusted with ensuring that the needs and interests of Russian citizens, as well as the rights and freedoms of public associations and other non-profit organisations, are duly considered and protected in the development and implementation of public policy.

The Chamber also conducts public oversight of the activities of federal executive authorities, executive bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and local self-government bodies, and supports the implementation of state human rights policy in places of detention.
