Ms Otunbayeva briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the situation in Kyrgyzstan.
Mr Medvedev stressed that the main thing now is to restore order as swiftly as possible, end the deadly interethnic clashes that have taken place, and resolve the associated humanitarian problems.
The President informed Ms Otunbayeva that acting on his instructions as Chairman of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation’s (CSTO) Collective Security Council, the Collective Security Council secretaries from the CSTO member states will hold consultations on June 14, 2010 at which Kyrgyzstan’s representatives will also be present. The main issues the consultations will address are restoring civil peace in Kyrgyzstan and the possibilities for using the procedures and mechanisms set out in the CSTO Charter.
Mr Medvedev also said that Russia’s Defence Ministry is sending an additional contingent to ensure the safety of Russian servicemen and installations belonging to the Russian Federation on Kyrgyzstan’s soil.
